Writing from prison, Paul encourages his dear friend Timothy to live a life of faithful endurance. Paul does this by reminding Timothy his faith is built upon that of his mother and grandmother. Paul further encourages Timothy not to be ashamed of his faith, to press on with his work, and to see the value and honor in ministry, even if, as in Paul’s case, it leads to imprisonment. Ministry has value and honor precisely because it is a holy calling.
